That's a really venomous piece. I think the dude is one of those 70's intellectual hippies who over-identified with Bob Dylan, and as a consequence focused his ire on the sellout (in his mind) anti-Dylans of his age: Billy Joel. It's like how Springsteen fans hate Bon Jovi and vice versa, or the same with Metallica and Megadeth. Maybe one day I'll be adept enough at douchebaggery to write pop culture put-downs for Slate.
