In response to John's post, I agree. Your basic NBA game is unwatchable. The playoff games are even more unwatchable. The two exceptions are possibly the Phoenix Suns and anytime Charles Barkley is providing commentary.
What really irks me is the commentators loving it up on the Spurs and especially Tim Duncan. The Spurs are a bunch of whiners, floppers, and actors. It's a team-wide thing. They throw themselves down at the slightest contact, wine and moan over every call against them. And not the good whining, either. This isn't Rasheed Wallace caliber whining, where he just doesn't stop and gets thrown out. This is calculated, pre-meditated whining. They stop when they know the refs are going to give them the easy calls next time down the court.
And the refs... christ, there's no consistency whatsoever in the calls.
For everyone who's rushing to their knees on account of Tim Duncan and all his skills, let me refer you to the 2006 Summer Olympics, when co-captain of the USA BB Team Tim Duncan sucked it up under the international ruleset, which doesn't coddle players, penalizes offensive fouls and traveling, and allows teams to play legitimate defense (no such thing as an "illegal defense" in international rules). Duncan sucked. He sucked hard. And then he fouled out of every game. The only reason Duncan succeeds now is because the NBA rules are built around him and players like him.
